#90: HEALING FOR A PEDOPHILE
--for Vanessa Place
I first thought about HEALING FOR A PEDOPHILE when I was in
the middle of an earlier (Soma)tic poetry ritual, RESTORATION FIBER SONG. With the RESTORATION piece I went back to
where I grew up, fully immersed myself in my old environment, especially the
most painful of memories, but NOT ONE word of memoir was to be written. That was an exercise in resistance.
HEALING FOR A PEDOPHILE is a healing for a pedophile. My stepfather is quite ill with lung and heart
disease and may not last the year. I
spent much of my youth making certain he was never alone in the house with my younger
sister. I was given my first rifle when
I was nine, and would sit in her bedroom at night with the loaded gun pointed
at the locked door, my sister hiding in a closet. John would be drunk outside the door moaning,
“Show me your pussy, c’mon let me smell your pussy!”
A year ago my sister confessed a new piece of the story. I had moved out as a teenager since he only
seemed interested in her when she was very young. It felt okay leaving, knowing that she would
also leave in a couple of years, and I kept in close contact with her. But my sister recently told me that once when
she was sixteen our mother made her get out of a hot shower, wrap a towel
around herself and sit on John’s knee in the living room. My mother sat nearby, smoking dope and
drinking gin. My sister says he didn’t
touch her with his hands, and that she jumped up and yelled at them both when
he began bouncing his knee into her wet body.
They laughed, or maybe just he laughed, I’m too enraged to hear the
story again, and I have been incapable of seeing my mother or her creepy
husband ever since.
Also about a year ago I became certified in Reiki, an
ancient practice of directing our inherent personal reservoirs of healing
energy through our hands to help others as well as ourselves. I was not only trained how to dispense Reiki
on people in front of me, but also how to send it long distance. This was the most miserable (Soma)tic, taking
notes for the poems during these healing sessions. First I performed Reiki on myself, then sent
it to my sister. Then I sent it to our
stepfather. The first time I sent Reiki
to him I had to run to the bathroom to vomit.
I didn’t want to send it. The
truth is I didn’t want him to feel better, but I did send it.
The last person I sent Reiki to is our mother. Until my sister’s latest story I had been
able to fool myself into believing that maybe our mother was so abused herself that
she chose to not notice her husband’s proclivity for desiring six-year-old
vagina. Our mother I will forgive the
last, she who compromised our safety to bring a little order to a pathological
disorder. My sleepless nights of anger
need to stop. Sending Reiki to those who
deserve it the least heals me in turn, and I can feel the building peace in and
around me with each session.
P.S. At my
“Impermanence Is The Old Permanence” lecture at PS1 MoMA I read this. Someone from the audience was upset because
they have family who pray for them, they said, “I DON’T WANT MY FAMILY PRAYING
FOR ME!” One big difference is that I’m
not telling my stepfather and mother I send them Reiki, I just send it. In other words Reiki is not a weapon, like
saying “I’m praying for you.” I’m not
interested in using Reiki to make them feel small, and bad. If I want to do that I only have to point at
them and say, “YOU are a pedophile and YOU are his accomplice!”

#89: HEART CHAKRA EXPANSION PROJECT
for Charlotte Annie and Whitney Lemon
Using bandages or tape fasten a small piece of rose quartz
to the center of your breastbone in the morning and wear this throughout the
day. In the most crowded street approach
strangers with a large notepad or clipboard with an outline of a human
body. At the top in bold lettering
proclaim your city’s own HEART CHAKRA EXPANSION PROJECT: Boulder, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Baltimore,
etc.
THE PHILADELPHIA HEART CHAKRA EXPANSION PROJECT
Have a script, and talk as though you have memorized this
script, “Hello, I’m from THE PHILADELPHIA HEART CHAKRA EXPANSION PROJECT, and
we’re asking people today to
please tell us how they would like the expansion to work for them.” Be ready to have bizarre conversations with people about WHAT this project may entail and what the possible outcomes could be. Take notes for the poem between conversations with strangers.
please tell us how they would like the expansion to work for them.” Be ready to have bizarre conversations with people about WHAT this project may entail and what the possible outcomes could be. Take notes for the poem between conversations with strangers.
At night in bed place the rose quartz on your third eye and
write as fast as you can without thinking.
This is to release any stored information from the quartz, and writing
as fast as you can will help alleviate any blockages from that information
coming out of the stone through you. Your notes will form a poem resulting in your
own HEART CHAKRA EXPANSION PROJECT, please know this love.

#88: SECURITY CAMERAS AND FLOWERS DREAMING THE ELEVATION ALLEGIANCE
--for Susie
Timmons
From Walnut & Broad St. to Walnut & 19th I stopped
for every security camera. Philadelphia
watches us always, FUCK YOU WATCHING US ALWAYS!! Several in one block I took notes, it was
noon, it was twelve just as I wanted it to be.
I took notes for the poem, notes notes notes.
A little basket of edible flowers: nasturtiums, roses, pansies, I eat pansies, I
LOVE pansies small buttery purple lettuce!!
At each security camera I paused, looked into the camera, DIRECTLY IN
THERE and stuck my tongue inside a flower.
Flicked it in and out, in and out, flicking, licking, suckling
blossoms. A security guard asked what the fuck was I doing, “I’M A
POLLINATOR, I’M A POLLINATOR!!” This was
the only thing I was allowed to say for the duration of the security camera
pollination application, “I’M A POLLINATOR, I’M A POLLINATOR!!” I took notes, took many notes, and the notes
became a poem titled, “I WANT TO DO EVERY / THING WRONG JUST ONCE”

#87: 9 ADZUKI THOUGHTS
for Lisa
Jarnot
9 is an epiphany, the energy entering the bottom tip,
traveling up the stem and circulating in the crown. An epiphany cannot be taken away.
I carried 9 adzuki beans with me for a day, talking to them
one at a time, then as a group, then holding them to my ear with eyes
closed. Hearing 9 uncertainties, 9 calls
to ration sadness. They slept through
the night with rose quartz in a jar of warm water. When I planted them I held them one at a time
under the dirt, my eyes closed, tuning to a steady humming under ground where
bean pulses waken. Notes, notes, I took
many notes all the while for the poem.
When they sprouted I held them in my mouth one at a time. I sealed my ears with plugs so the only sound
I heard was my teeth chewing adzuki thoughts to become myself. 9 thoughts for 9 requests for equilibrium,
then more notes for the poem were taken.Saturday, June 15, 2013
#86: SUSPENSION FLUID MAGNIFICENCE
--for Samuel R. Delany and
Stephen Boyer
.jpg)
When I was given my first rifle at nine my friend Chris and I went into the woods. I was a good shot and skinned and cleaned the squirrel in the creek and cooked him over a small fire. This was the first meal I fully provided myself, my Lord of the Flies afternoon, something to measure against the world.
How is wilderness memorized into the body? What lens does it provide? I went to where the wild is mostly
hidden. At lunch hour I walked around
JFK Boulevard in Philadelphia where men in suits poured out of skyscrapers in
search of meat.
It was at busy street corners where I found most
of my study participants. I would ask,
“Excuse me sir, on a scale from 1 to 5, 1 being thin and creamy, and 5 being
cottage cheese, how do you rate your semen?”
One man grabbed my collar to THROW ME against a
light pole, “GET OUT OF HERE YOU FUCKING FAGGOT!!” How thrilling!! I was told to fuck off, called a faggot a
handful of times, told I was SICK, a degenerate. While all of this is interesting, I was
looking for the few men who would step up to the quiet, feral interior.
Finally one man said,
“I’m a 3.”
ME: 3, okay.
(writing in my notebook) So
that’s thick and creamy?
MAN: Yes, no curd, HAHA!!
ME: Very interesting.
MAN: Thanks for asking.
ME: Thanks for answering.
Another man wanted to know if anyone answered
5. We wondered if someone rating their
semen a 5 is unwell, not eating properly.
Semen is fascinating as far as suspension fluids on Earth go, created
and produced with extreme pleasure. The
orgasm the flash of light reconnecting to the original proliferation of cells
and the construction of sensate flesh, which is a very marvelous thing, being
here, all of us. My notes from the
boulevard of quiet, feral interiors became a poem.
